When I Cross the Bridge to Your Side, I See Pictures You See.
About The Figtree Therapy
Love, relationships, intimacy, and sex are experiences that shape much of our lives. They can bring joy and connection, as well as anger and pain. They make us smile, they move us to tears, they can give us a deep sense of fulfilment—and at times, leave us feeling lost or disconnected from ourselves.
When we face emotional difficulties, we may try to cope on our own. Sometimes that is enough; at other times, we need support from others—friends, family, or a trained therapist. The Figtree Therapy was created to support individuals and couples who are seeking understanding, guidance, and healing amid the complexities of psychosexual and relationship challenges.
What is psychosexual therapy?
Psychosexual therapy uses focused or longer-term psychotherapy to help address sexual and intimacy difficulties. It is a talking-based therapy that supports individuals and couples in exploring their lives, sexual concerns, and preferences, with the aim of resolving specific sexual or intimacy-related problems.
It is widely recognised that the body and mind are closely connected, and psychosexual therapy works with this relationship. When someone is physically healthy but their sex life feels unsatisfying—such as experiencing sexual dysfunction, low sexual desire or arousal, or a lack of intimacy—we explore possible mind–body factors that may be contributing to these difficulties. These “blockers” can include emotional or psychological issues such as anxiety, low self-confidence, sexual trauma, PTSD, bereavement, or loss.
At The Figtree Therapy, our therapist is a highly trained specialist in psychosexual therapy. We offer a safe, trusting, and confidential space where you can talk openly and honestly. Working collaboratively, you and your therapist will explore your concerns in depth and develop understanding and solutions that support meaningful and lasting change.
What is relationship therapy?
Compared with psychosexual therapy, relationship therapy may feel more familiar. While it does explore love, intimacy, and sex, it also looks more broadly at the factors that shape how relationships function. At The Figtree Therapy, we examine influences such as communication styles, previous life experiences, unhelpful or repetitive behaviour patterns, emotional avoidance, and other dynamics that can affect both individuals and couples.
Through this process, we work collaboratively to identify meaningful ways to improve relationships and interactions, supporting healthier connections with others and with oneself.
We believe that everyone deserves to express their true feelings and thoughts. For this reason, we provide a safe, supportive, and non-judgemental environment. Our work focuses on understanding both past and present experiences while looking towards practical and emotional solutions. Even difficult or painful experiences can hold value; by reflecting on them, we can uncover insight and wisdom that supports growth and positive change.
